The open-ended Lexus SC and Lexus IS C have one thing in common that they look awkward – in part because both models are hard-top convertibles. And how wonderful that the Japanese did not make an all-weather car out of a two-door Lexus LC 500 Convertible.
The Los Angeles Auto Show debut became the first Lexus with a soft roof. The specimen in the photos sports a beautiful blue top. This is the hallmark of the exclusive Inspiration Series, which will run only 100 units. The rest of the convertible versions will have black or beige roofs.
Compared to the Lexus LC 500 coupe, the Convertible has weighed from 1935 kg to 2045. The usual story: to compensate for the rigidity of the body, engineers have strengthened the body and the underbody with additional elements.
Moreover, Japanese specialists have optimized the location of those amplifiers that were already in place before the body was redesigned. In the front suspension, unsprung masses have decreased, and an aluminum stretch has appeared in the rear.
The interior has also changed. For example, the front seats are supplemented with a system for supplying warm air to the neck area, and the electronics have learned to change the operating modes of the air conditioner, heated steering wheel, seats and neck, taking into account the lowered top.
The convertible was given the same five-liter naturally aspirated V8 developing 477 hp. and 540 N • m, and a ten-speed automatic transmission, which is equipped with a coupe. There is no data on the speed characteristics of the open LC 500, but the closed version accelerates to hundreds in 4.7 seconds at a maximum speed of 270 km / h. Nothing is said about whether the LC Convertible will be powered by the 359-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the coupe’s range. In any case, sales of the convertible will start in summer 2020, although in January at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona one of the lots will be a unique LC 500 Convertible with equipment that even the Inspiration Series will not have.
