Only two days left before the release of the game Cyberpunk 2077. The first materials are already available on the web, telling about what to expect from the new project CD Projekt RED. The Tom’s Hardware editors approached the review of the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 a little differently, deciding to test the current models of video cards in it.
Overseas peers tested at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K with Medium and Ultra graphics quality settings. For GeForce RTX adapters, performance was also measured with ray tracing and DLSS anti-aliasing technology. The test platform is based on an Intel Core i9-9900K processor.
As you can see, even with medium graphics settings, the requirements for Cyberpunk 2077 are quite high. To play comfortably in 1080p resolution, you need a Radeon RX 5600 XT or GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, while owners of 1440p and 4K monitors should get a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3080, respectively.
In the case of ultra-graphics quality settings, you need a GeForce RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card for comfortable 1080p frame rates. At 1440p, you’ll need a GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics adapter, and at 4K, no modern graphics card delivers 60fps.
The graphs above show the results of “green” video cards with active effects based on ray tracing (RTU – RayTracing Ultra, RTM – RayTracing Medium). In this mode, Cyberpunk 2077 brings even the top Nvidia Ampere to its knees. The only graphics card that delivers over 60 fps in native 1080p resolution is the GeForce RTX 3090 today.
Based on the results, Cyberpunk 2077 is not one of the most optimized games at this time. At least when it comes to the PC version. Let’s hope that the developers will tighten up the performance in the upcoming patches.
Checking the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on laptops and medium PCs from Playground.ru
The long-awaited project from CD Projekt RED finally came out, however, it ran into problems on release. Players now and then complain about the problematic technical part of Cyberpunk 2077 and poor performance even on powerful video cards. The performance of the game on the newest lines of video cards from Nvidia and AMD has already been tested, the problematic part turned out to be ultra settings and ray tracing. But what about the average gamer who doesn’t have a top gaming monster?
We decided to check how Cyberpunk 2077 behaves on a budget PC and how many FPS you can get on the most popular video card of 2016. In addition, we also ran the game on laptops to see the performance on mobile video cards.
GeForce GTX 1060
Processor - Intel Core i5-7500 3.4 GHz Video card - GeForce GTX 1060 on 16 GB RAM
Back this summer, Valve published statistics on the popularity of video cards on Steam. According to the company, the GeForce GTX 1060 holds a confident leadership. Alas, playing on a video card four years ago at high settings will not be comfortable. Cyberpunk 2077 for forty minutes produces an average of 26 frames per second. The FPS counter is constantly fluctuating. Strong drawdowns occur in densely populated areas of the city, but in some places even more than 30 PFS can be seen. If you spend time adjusting the graphics, lowering some parameters to average or below average, you can achieve higher stable performance.
AMD Radeon RX 560X
Processor - Ryzen 5 3550H 2.1 GHz Graphics Card - AMD Radeon RX 560X 4GB 8 GB RAM
In terms of characteristics, the laptop is comparable to a budget PC. The processor in terms of performance can be attributed to a desktop Intel Core i5-8400, and a video card with a GeForce GTX 1050 (except that the amount of memory is more). Full HD resolution and lowest graphics preset. In such conditions, Cyberpunk 2077 showed an average of 24 FPS. Overall, this was a real test for a laptop, which affected the recording quality. There is no way to improve performance here.
Gaming Laptop – RTX 2060
Processor - Intel Core i7-10750H 2.6 GHz Video card - GeForce RTX 2060 16 GB RAM
The best results were shown by a gaming laptop based on GeForce RTX 2060. Ray tracing enabled, maximum graphics preset and Full HD. With these settings, Cyberpunk 2077 delivers a full 40 FPS, but with drawdowns. In dynamic gunfights or fast driving, the counter can drop even to 28 frames per second, and cut scenes can drop the value even lower. But for maximum settings, these are excellent results.
